As the end of August approaches its only a matter of days until we’ll begin our wonderful adventure of learning in the community of our grade 6 classroom. It promises to be a great year of inquiry and understanding as we tap into the entire world as our learning platform. Each student can look forward to learning and growing in cooperative groups and having access to some of the best technology in the school including: computers, tablets, webcams, a Smartboard, a digital camera and a scanner. We will be communicating with students and experts from around the world through our blogs and Skyping sessions. Though we still will utilize some notebooks, we are making an effort to be a paper-reduced classroom and therefore many assignments will be handed in online through our class Edmodo account or various other web-based programs like Glogster, Spelling City and Google Drive.
I’m really looking forward to working closely with Mr. Zondag’s grade 6 class as we will be sharing many periods and learning opportunities with our classes.
Also, along with several virtual field trips we will be planning to travel to several real world sites to receive hands-on experiences of what the world has to offer us.
In Language we will be looking at Blogging and how it will assist us over the course of the year. Be sure to visit our classroom on Meet the teacher night on September 24, to see our first blogs on display.
